Frequently Asked Questions

Spa Marvel® F.A.Q.

Q. Are there any product
s that Spa Marvel® is not compatible with?
A. Spa Marvel is not compatible with biquanide products or 1 micron disposable filters.

Q. Does Spa Marvel® have a money back guarantee?
A. Yes, Spa Marvel is 100% guaranteed when used according to the directions.

Q. How long does Spa Marvel® last?
A. One bottle will last up to 3 months. As water is removed from the spa through splashing and regular usage, Spa Marvel® is also removed. When your spa water loses its 'silky' feeling, it's time to add another bottle.

Q. How often should I change my water?
A. Most customers using Spa Marvel® change the water every 6 to 12 months.

Q. Why do I need to change the hot tub water after one year?
A. Hot tub water will eventually wear out and pH will no longer stabilize. Different bather habits cause different results. One year is an average but recommended time horizon for changing the water

Q. Where should my pH and alkalinity be?
A. pH should range from 7.8 to 8.4 where 8.0 is ideal. Alkalinity should range from 80 to 120 ppm.

Q. Is Spa Marvel® compatible with chlorine, bromine and ozone?
A. Yes

Q. Is Spa Marvel® safe for the environment?
A. Yes. Past studies hast shown Spa Marvel® to be safe for children, pets, fish, birds, reptiles, plants, rivers, and lakes.

Q. Is Spa Marvel® safe for small children?
A. Yes.

Q. What should I do if the water turns cloudy?
A. Cloudy water may be caused by frequent use by a large number of bathers, deodorants, oils, lotions, sunscreen, or other products used on the skin or soap residues in bathing suits. To clear up cloudy water:
  • Make sure spa users and bathing suits are as clean as possible.
  • Make sure the filter has been properly cleaned or replaced.
  • Make sure the filtration system runs at least 6 hours a day.
  • Use a non-chlorine shock or a clarifier to speed up recovery time.
  • Be patient. The spa water will clear up and does not have to be drained if the water is cloudy, Spa Marvel® just needs some time to do its job.
Q. Why do we need to use Spa Marvel® Cleanser prior to using Spa Marvel® Water Treatment and Conditioner?
A. Over time chlorine, bromine, other chemicals and minerals in water will leave a buildup in your spa plumbing, equipment and heating element, resulting in decreased performance and creating a potential breeding ground for bacteria.

Spa Marvel® Water Treatment on its own will remove this buildup, but it can take up to six months to thoroughly purge your tub and you may experience cloudy water and white flakes in the water as a result of this deep cleansing process. To help reduce and in most cases eliminate these occurrences, Spa Marvel® Cleanser acts to remove buildup prior to using the Spa Marvel® Water Treatment.

Tips & Troubleshooting

Shower First: Showering will reduce the introduction of dirt, oils, hair products, deodorants, makeup, perfume etc. to the spa.

Keep the Air On: Spa Marvel® works better with air in the water. Leave the air intakes open between uses to maximize Spa Marvel®'s effects. It is better if you can point the jets upwards to increase water agitation when you are not in the spa.

Clean Your Filters: The Spa Marvel® system relies heavily on filtration. Regular and proper cleaning of the spa's filters using a product such as Spa Marvel® Filter Cleaner are pivotal to the success of using Spa Marvel®.

MAINTAIN WATER LEVEL: Water should be at least 7 1/2 centimeters (3 inches) above filter intake. Low water levels will lead to cloudy water.

AVOID DETERGENTS: Bathing suits and clothing will retain detergent left over from laundering. This detergent will dissolve in the water and create foam. To prevent this, wash your bathing attire in water without any detergent to ensure it is free of detergent. Alternatively, don't wear any clothing into the spa.

Your Questions Answered

Spa Marvel® users should expect to enjoy clear, odour free water at all times. On very rare occasions some users have occasionally experienced less than perfect water. Here are answers to those infrequently asked questions:

Foamy Water?

Almost always caused by the introduction of soaps to the spa. Clean filters, increased circulation and time will usually correct foam problems. Shower before using the spa, ensure that there are no detergents entering the spa from hair, skin, bathing suits, clothing etc. Some filter cleaning products will cause foaminess. Ensure that the filters are thoroughly rinsed after cleaning, before reinstalling.

Film on Spa Walls?

Spa Marvel® contains positively charged ions and your spa surface has a negative charge. Occasionally a bond between these two charges will occur resulting in a slight film that may develop on the spa walls. Simply wipe the surface with your hand or a cloth (rinsed well to remove any existing detergents) to break this bond. The bonding also creates a natural lubricant that allows your spa's mechanical components and heaters to work better.

Odour?

Most odours are a result of contaminants that have accumulated in the spa's filters. Properly clean filters using a product such as Spa Marvel® Filter Cleaner. If odour persists, shock water with 30 grams (2 tablespoons) of chlorine or bromine based shock.

Cloudy or Discoloured Water?

Occasionally Spa Marvel® Cleanser did not completely remove all contaminants from the plumbing of the spa. Spa Marvel® Water Treatment will, over a period of time, loosen these contaminants causing them to be released into the spa water. You will now experience better efficiency and longer life from the heater and stronger circulation from the jets, but consequently, as the contaminants are released into the spa water you may experience a combination of cloudy or discoloured water, major changes in pH or an odour. In brand new spas these conditions may occur as the spa off-gasses and Spa Marvel® removes other contaminants leftover from the manufacturing process.

To correct this, PROPERLY clean filter with a product such as Spa Marvel® Filter Cleaner. Shock spa with a non-chlorine shock. Increase filtration cycle. Increase sanitizer level.  Check alkalinity (80-120) and pH (7.2-8.2) and manually adjust if necessary, alkalinity first, then pH. Allow 24 hours for these steps to work, then re-clean filter.

Greenish Tint?
This is generally related to a copper condition in your spa and/or water. Shock the spa with 30 grams (2 tablespoons) of dichlor. Ensure that filters are kept clean. There are products available through your spa store that aid in removing metals from water.
